KUKA Presents Advanced, Automated Grinding and Polishing Solutions at RIA Robotic Grinding and Finishing Conference

KUKA will explore its partnership with the 3M Customer Application Center and the impact automated grinding and polishing solutions can have on small and mid-sized manufacturers’ business outcomes

ST. PAUL, Minn.--()--KUKA, a global supplier of intelligent automation solutions, will present on automated grinding and finishing solutions for small and mid-sized manufacturers, as well as its partnership with 3M at the RIA Robotic Grinding and Finishing Conference in St. Paul, Minn., November 28 – 29 at the 3M Innovation Center.

During KUKA’s presentation, titled “The First Step: Taking Grinding and Finishing Automation to SMEs,” KUKA’s Simon Whitton, regional division manager of North America, and Pat Duda, senior sales application engineer, will discuss what is needed for small- and mid-sized manufacturers to successfully adopt automated grinding and finishing solutions and drive greater business outcomes.

Smaller manufacturers must remain flexible to be competitive, but they’re often limited in the time they have to invest in initial setup and changeovers. Additionally, there are a limited number of integrators with the necessary equipment and experience to support these manufacturers with automation for grinding and finishing processes. This presentation will address these challenges and discuss:

  • How grinding and finishing process experts can come together with robotic automation providers to make grinding and finishing automation accessible to small and mid-sized manufacturers.
  • How the marriage of separate disciplines can be used to enable inexperienced integrators to provide additional support for end-users and help them realize improved efficiencies and ROI.

“Traditionally, grinding and finishing automation solutions have only been accessible to manufacturers with larger volumes,” said Whitton. “We want to show smaller manufacturers that these solutions are now available to them. We’ve already overcome the challenges and lessons learned in automating the process for large companies. Now we have the opportunity to provide smaller manufacturers with actionable advice to help them achieve the benefits, such as cost savings and improved efficiency, as quickly as possible.”

KUKA will also present a video on its partnership with the 3M Customer Application Center, exploring how KUKA uses the center as an outlet to help innovate new solutions in the robot-based automation of abrasives applications, as well as the evolution of robot-based abrasives applications and industry challenges.

KUKA will exhibit its collective grinding and finishing applications on the show floor.
