Merry Maids Reveals Its Top Tips for Tackling #Thanksgiving Messes

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--()--Thanksgiving, a beloved holiday among Americans, is synonymous with family, friends and food. For those hosting, it’s also synonymous with a lot of responsibility, like acing the turkey (cooking and carving), making homes feel warm and hospitable (and clean), and of course, cleaning up after guests leave. Fortunately, Merry Maids, one of the nation’s largest home cleaning services and a ServiceMaster company, is here to help you tackle the aftermath of Thanksgiving get-togethers.

“Thanksgiving, though a day of fun and togetherness, is also one of the messiest, a fact holiday hosts are reminded of each year,” said Debra Johnson, Merry Maids home cleaning expert. “Cleanup can be time-consuming, but it doesn’t have to take the last bit of energy you have left from what’s often a marathon day of cooking and entertaining.”

Johnson shares her top expert tips for helping hosts restore their homes to order once the final Thanksgiving guest leaves:

  1. Take advantage of any, and all, self-cleaning appliances. Self-cleaning ovens use a lot of energy, but far less than the amount of energy an individual would put into scrubbing the walls, racks and doors of ovens without the head start the self-cleaning feature provides. Do this as soon as the final guest departs so final cleanup the next day will be much easier.
  2. Restore order to your bathroom. Thanksgiving dinner draws lots of guests, and therefore lots of trips to the bathroom. A time-saving tip to get your toilet clean again involves a cup of white vinegar and a few fizzy denture tablets. Leave them in the toilet bowl overnight so cleaning the next day will take half the time.
  3. Make laundry a priority. Many guests love making themselves at home during the holidays – cuddling up to throw pillows and blankets, staying overnight in guest bedrooms or drying their hands on whatever towels they can get their hands on. If you do one load of laundry immediately after Thanksgiving, let it be your linens. This will make tackling your family’s normal laundry less time-consuming after your guests leave.
  4. Call in the professionals. Whether you cooked a 10-course meal or had some catering help, everyone deserves a little rest and relaxation around the holidays. Hiring the pros to clean for you is likely to bring you a second helping of happiness – as a recent survey from Merry Maids revealed that the majority of Americans (74 percent) said having a clean home makes them feel like a better parent or partner. Fortunately, that doesn’t mean you have to do it all by yourself. Schedule a post-Thanksgiving visit from Merry Maids for a thorough, just-to-your-liking cleaning of your home.

"Everyone wants a cleaner home before – and after – the holidays, but finding the time to take care of necessary tasks without sacrificing time for yourself or family is becoming increasingly difficult in today's fast-paced world,” said Hagan Kappler, president of Merry Maids. “At Merry Maids, we're happy to offer solutions tailored to your specific needs. You don’t have to spend your precious free time cleaning and scrubbing. Allow us to do it for you so you can make time for the things and people who really matter.”
