Meet Popular New Mexico Artist Lori Faye Bock

ABIQUIÚ, N.M.--()--If you have a pet in your household and wonder why some greeting card companies seem to avoid featuring them on their cards, especially for Christmas, your search is over. New Mexico animal artist Lori Faye Bock, who publishes an extensive line of greeting cards, has released her second Christmas card from her painting titled…The Gift.

A mourning dove in a nest of festive holly rests atop the cat in a wintery scene and is meant to be symbolic of rejuvenation and hope throughout America.

The popular Abiquiú (pronounced Ah.be.cue) artist has been a mainstay in Santa Fe and Taos galleries with her whimsical and colorful paintings of domestic and farm animals as well as birds for the past two decades. Residing along the Chama River with her husband in an early 18th century renovated and expanded mud adobe farmhouse since 1990, Bock creates in her studio, uninhibited by most distractions of daily life.

With over 200 domestic and foreign publishers, Bock is the sole member from her state with the Washington D.C. based Greeting Card Association. Next year, Bock will be competing in the 77 year old organization’s prestigious annual Louie Awards to take place in New York City in May 2019. Three of her cards, including this year’s Christmas card, The Gift have been nominated.

As a participant in the New Mexico True Certified 100% Made in NM campaign, Bock believes the program’s sticker designation on each product encourages state residents and visitors alike as well as her online store buyers, to support the diversification of the state’s economy by insuring her products are created and made in America.

Asked why she focused on a painting of a cat for this year’s Christmas card, she states, “I’m a cat person to be sure. We have had many dogs and sheep over the years. All have had names and distinct personalities. But, as many families with cats know, they are much easier to snuggle with in bed!”
