MINNEAPOLIS--()--DTN/The Progressive Farmer is proud to announce that United States Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue will headline its annual Ag Summit held December 3-5, 2018, in Chicago. Secretary Perdue will provide a keynote address, “Global Trade and Political Issues that will Shape the 2019 Season,” to kick-off the event on December 3.

Secretary Perdue is a former farmer, agribusinessman, veterinarian, state legislator, and governor of Georgia. He was sworn into office as the 31st United States Secretary of Agriculture in 2017. His address will shed light on what global trade and the current economic outlook means for the country’s agricultural producers.

“We are honored that Secretary Perdue will join us at the 2018 Ag Summit,” Gregg Hillyer, editor-in-chief of The Progressive Farmer, said. “His appearance is especially timely as farmers are looking to the Trump Administration to address global trade, especially for American agricultural products. Secretary Perdue’s speech will deliver critical insights into the economic and trade outlook for agriculture.”

The 2018 Ag Summit agenda features two additional high-profile speakers to provide insight into the future of agriculture. Jim Carroll, a futurist and innovation expert, will speak about disruption in the industry and what farming will look like in 2045. Chenjun Pan, an animal protein analyst with Rabo AgriFinance in the RaboResearch Food & Agribusiness group, is the Marcia Taylor Memorial Lecture Series speaker. She will discuss how changing protein demands in Asia and globally may impact United States meat, dairy, oilseeds and grains exports in 2019 and beyond.

“Both Jim Carroll and Chenjun Pan bring unique and important insights on the future of our industry,” Greg Horstmeier, editor-in-chief of the DTN digital newsroom, said. “Ag Summit attendees will leave Chicago informed, energized, and prepared for the coming years.”
