Third Annual Sino-US Culture Summit Held at United Talent Agency

Topics included Chinese and American business opportunities in the entertainment industry

BEVERLY HILLS--()--Last Friday, the 3rd Sino-US Culture Summit was held at United Talent Agency’s (UTA) Beverly Hills headquarters and focused on China-US collaborations through the lens of the entertainment industry. This year’s Summit was hosted by Lansion Media, Global Talents Media Group and UTA, and sponsored by Huading Awards Group and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. Over a hundred professionals came together to exchange ideas about bridging the gap between the Chinese and American entertainment industries. The Sino-US Culture Summit provides an in-depth look at the global opportunities that arise as a result of cross-cultural cooperation between the United States and China.

The Summit featured three panels of leading entertainment industry professionals. The first panel, State of Affairs: A Look at the Current Film Landscape in China, was moderated by UTA’s Head of Asian Business Development, Max Michael and speakers included Scott Einbinder, President of ANA Media; Jason Lin, Executive of Business Development & Production at Alibaba Pictures; Adam Presser, SVP of International at Warner Brothers; and Sophia Yen, Partner of Entertainment and Media at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. Discussions included the competitive climate of the Chinese film industry, differences between Chinese and American audience tastes and tips on how to increase the chances of producing a hit that meets the needs of both markets.

The second panel, The Future of US-China Co-Production Films under the Current Trade War, was also moderated by UTA’s Max Michael and speakers included Lindsay Conner, Chair of Media and Entertainment Groups at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips; Tom Jacobson, Film & TV Producer, Owner of The Jacobson Company; and Janet Yang, Award-Winning Film & TV Producer and Owner of Janet Yang Productions. This panel delved into topics surrounding co-production and the trade war, the successes and failures of past co-productions and the industry’s future.

Lastly, The Power of Cross-Cultural Celebrities was moderated by UTA’s Asian Business Development Agent, Lucia Liu. Guest speakers for the third panel included UTA’s Talent Agent Darren Boghosian; Jaeson Ma, Manager and Principal of East West Artists; Andrew Ooi, President of Echelon Talent Management; David Unger, Manager and CEO of Artist International Group; and Clément Buyi Zheng, CEO of CLÉMENT & CLÉMENT. The final panel examined the challenges that global celebrities face, the importance of offering diverse roles in film and television and the necessity of promoting intellectual property that offers cross-cultural talent the ability to shine.
