BRNO, Czech Republic--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PPG (NYSE:PPG) today announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ project in Brno, Czech Republic, that helped revitalize Pšeník Kindergarten. The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in Brno, where PPG has a shared services center and architectural coatings facility.
The project brought together more than 75 PPG volunteers, who spent three days revitalizing the kindergarten’s interior, exterior and playground. PPG provided more than $22,000 (480,000 CZK) to assist with the project, including around 300 liters (80 gallons) of BALAKRYL®, PRIMALEX® and SIGMA COATINGS® paint products.
Pšeník Kindergarten, which is located close to PPG’s shared services center in Brno, educates more than 70 children ages 3 to 6. Its vision is to teach children to “see the beauty around them,” with a focus on healthy living and the environment. The facility has not been substantially renovated in the more than 50 years since its opening.
Volunteers painted the kindergarten’s interior walls, doors, railings and chairs in a color palette of orange and yellow to brighten up the space and distinguish individual classrooms.
For the exterior, the volunteers painted a flower meadow on the building’s gray façade to make it colorful and recognizable as a kindergarten. They also created interactive and colorful hopscotches and painted benches, sandbox frames, playground equipment and other items. PPG’s donation included a wooden monkey bar in the shape of a ship that the volunteers painted blue, red, yellow, green and orange. Flowers and shrubs were planted to create a barrier between the playground and adjacent road.
