Fourteen Local San Diego UBS Professionals Achieve CEPA Designations

Recognition of exceptional knowledge in financial services

SAN DIEGO--()--Eleven San Diego-based UBS Financial Services advisors and three senior managers recently earned the Exit Planning Institute’s CEPA designation. The Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) Program is an executive MBA-style program that trains and certifies qualified and experienced professional financial advisors in the field of exit planning for business owners. Only a small percentage of financial professionals achieve this designation.

Developed and taught by a diverse team of over 15 nationally-recognized experts, the CEPA program integrates exit strategy into business, personal, and financial goals of the business owner. According to the Exit Planning Institute, a recent study conducted in collaboration with CSU San Marcos shows that 66 percent of the current San Diego business market is owned by Baby Boomers, who are set to transition over the next one to twelve years. The San Diego study showed that 88 percent of business owners had no written transition plan; 66 percent said they had no plan at all (vs 49 percent in national survey); and, 22 percent said they had a plan but it was neither written nor communicated. Only 5 percent stated they had a formal written plan that had been communicated to both management and employees.

CEPA-certified financial advisors help business owners prepare exit plans that are strategically designed blueprints to assist them in selling a business for maximum profit or to cut losses. The UBS advisors who have earned this CEPA designation include:

  • Steven DeMatteo, UBS Carmel Valley office
  • Brian Donaldson, UBS La Jolla office
  • Luke Ervin, UBS Carmel Valley office
  • Matt Hansen, UBS Rancho Bernardo office
  • Bryce Herman, UBS Carmel Valley office
  • Thomas J. Krumenacker, UBS downtown San Diego office
  • Stephen LaFata, UBS La Jolla office
  • Greg Paffendorf, UBS Rancho Bernardo office
  • Chris Radici, UBS La Jolla office
  • John Willis, UBS Rancho Bernardo office
  • Brian Young, UBS Carmel Valley office

In addition to the above financial advisors, three UBS San Diego market leaders earned the CEPA designation: Chris Marsh, market head for UBS San Diego, Chris Kurdziel, assistant market head, and Rick Andryc, branch manager for the UBS Rancho Bernardo office.

Chris Marsh, market head for UBS in San Diego, says, “The reason we have encouraged so many of our financial advisors to take this course and achieve the CEPA designation is because statistics like these impact future generations and the culture of the community. We have a thriving entrepreneurial business market in San Diego. Our goal at UBS is to help that business market thrive for generations to come.”
