IDERA Provides Free Data Modeling Tools to Northeastern University

New Academic Program Offers No-Cost Licenses to Students; Provides Valuable Access to Career-Building Tools

HOUSTON--()--IDERA (a division of Idera, Inc.), a provider of powerful database productivity tools, today announced its new Academic Program that provides free software licenses to university students who want to build real-world data modeling skills. Northeastern University is the first school to provide free licenses for IDERA ER/Studio Data Architect to students in a graduate-level data architecture course.

ER/Studio data architecture tools work with multiple database platforms and are used by data architects, data modelers, database administrators and business analysts to create and manage enterprise data models and database designs. These tools are widely used in numerous corporate and government environments to create, modify and maintain enterprise architectures.

Getting university students interested and educated in data modeling has become a growing concern among industry professionals. Through IDERA’s new Academic Program, university students now can develop hands-on skills and best practices in data structures, models and architecture design using a standard, feature-rich industry tool, for free.

“My course focuses on designing advanced data architectures as part of a comprehensive business intelligence and data science curriculum,” said Rick Sherman, adjunct professor, Northeastern University Graduate School of Engineering. “As such, it’s important for us to use a tool with a quick learning curve and extensive functionality that supports a wide range of database platforms and data models. ER/Studio Data Architect is an intuitive tool that makes it the perfect fit for this class and gives students an incredible learning opportunity.”

Unlike typical free software tool trials, IDERA is providing a fully functional multi-platform license for ER/Studio Data Architect for students to install on their personal machines for use on class projects and assignments for the duration of the course.

“We’re thrilled to work with leading academic institutions like Northeastern to provide world-class tools and expertise in data modeling to students,” said Ron Huizenga, senior product manager of enterprise architecture, IDERA. “By offering free access to ER/Studio, we can help the next generation of data architects, data modelers, database administrators and business analysts accrue valuable skills for real-world jobs before they ever leave the classroom.”

IDERA plans to extend its academic license option to other educational institutions that offer data modeling courses and programs.
