What: First bus shelter installation in Mar Vista as part of the Bus/Transit Hub Project. The basic concept revolves around a fundamental re-envisioning of public-bus-lines-as-numbers to public-bus-lines-as-places of art and poetry.

Background: Instead of thinking of a bus line solely by its number identifier (i.e. #33, #14), commuters will be invited to also regard the bus lines as places of art and poetry, thus bringing humanity to a utilitarian experience in the lives of many Angelenos. Supported by a campaign of ongoing public art, commuters can interact with the artwork and the poetry on a personal level, thus shifting their thinking about their actual commute. In the process, by engaging and delighting with this art the project seeks to combat the public perception that bus commuting is a dreary activity.
The project hopes to engage commuters in a new way, by elevating the bus commuting experience through public ART in words and pictures. Ultimately it is anticipated this engagement will inspire and attract new users to share and expand the ridership of this wonderful public transit resource. The installation takes place as part of the Mar Vista Art Walk, which takes place that tomorrow evening from 6-10 p.m. from Inglewood to Beethoven on Venice Boulevard.
