Virginia Virtual Academy Welcomes Back Students for the 2018-2019 School Year on September 4

HERNDON, Va.--()--Students and teachers at Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA) will start the 2018-2019 school year on September 4. A full-time, online public school program of King and Queen County Public Schools, Patrick County Public Schools and Richmond City Public Schools, VAVA provides a tuition-free public education for students in grades K-11 across the Commonwealth. New for this academic year, VAVA is expanding its high school to include 11th grade. The school will grow again to offer grades K-12 for the 2019-2020 school year.

As we grow our program for the new school year, we’re proud to continue to serve families across Virginia,” said Suzanne Sloane, Virginia Virtual Academy’s head of school. “Our teachers are committed to academic success, and the online platform provides a learning environment that meets the unique needs of each student.”

Combining innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led by Virginia-licensed teachers, VAVA provides each student with a personalized learning experience. Students take a full course load in the core subjects of math, science, language arts, history and art, as well as a variety of electives including, but not limited to music and world languages.

VAVA’s dedicated teachers facilitate lessons during live, interactive online classes, allowing students to enjoy a safe learning environment. In addition to scheduled classes, teachers offer individual instruction and support, online sessions and phone calls to build close partnerships with families and students in support of their academic success.

Students enroll in online school for a variety of reasons, including advanced learning, a bullying-free environment, and the ability to balance their education with extracurricular pursuits or medical needs.

Throughout the year, VAVA builds a sense of community through in-person field trips, community service opportunities and social outings across Virginia. Virtual clubs and organizations allow students to further explore shared interests together in the online, moderated setting with students across the K12 virtual community.

VAVA is still accepting enrollment applications for limited openings for the 2018-2019 school year. Families are encouraged to attend an online or in-person information session hosted by the school.
