Texas Virtual Academy at Hallsville Kicks off Inaugural School Year on August 27

Statewide Online Public School to Serve Texas Students in Grades 3-12

LEWISVILLE, Texas--()--Texas Virtual Academy at Hallsville (TVAH), a full-time online public school, begins its inaugural school year on August 27. Made possible through a partnership between the Hallsville Independent School District and K12 Inc., TVAH is a public school at home option available tuition-free to students statewide in grades 3-12.

TVAH provides families and students an alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar education. Students enroll in online school for a variety of reasons, including advanced learning, a bullying-free environment and the ability to balance their education with extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. Combining innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led by state-certified teachers, TVAH will offer each student a personalized learning experience tailored to fit his or her needs.

“We are excited to welcome students for our first school year at TVAH,” said Catherine Groven, head of school at Texas Virtual Academy at Hallsville. “We recognize that each student has unique needs, and we are proud to offer a personalized education designed to allow our students to find the learning style that works best for them.”

Through live and recorded class sessions that are accessed online, students and their teachers can engage and interact as if they were sitting in a traditional classroom. Students will also complete schoolwork using hands-on educational materials that are shipped to their homes.

Students in all grade levels will take a full course load across the core subjects of English/language arts, math, science and history, as well as world languages, art, music and electives. College- or career-minded students can choose profession-focused courses in order to gain a competitive edge for the future, discover their path after high school or explore a possible college major. All courses are approved by the Texas Virtual School Network to meet Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and iNACOL standards for online courses.

TVAH’s dedicated teachers will facilitate lessons during live, interactive online classes, and interact with students and families via phone, email, web-based classrooms and online discussions, building close partnerships with parents and students to support academic success. The online platform enables students to enjoy a safe learning environment while connecting with classmates and teachers from across the state.

Throughout the school year, TVAH will build a sense of community through in-person field trips and social outings. TVAH will also celebrate graduating seniors with an in-person commencement ceremony in the spring, and virtual clubs and student organizations will allow students to further explore their interests in the online setting.

TVAH is currently accepting enrollments for the fall. Interested families are encouraged to attend online information sessions hosted by the school. To learn more, visit tvah.k12.com or download the K12 enrollment app for iOS and Android devices.
