Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy Welcomes Students for the 2018-19 School Year on August 9

Public Charter School Offers Online and In-Person Learning Opportunities

BATON ROUGE, La.--()--Students and teachers at Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy (LAVCA) will start the 2018-2019 school year on August 9. A full-time, online public charter school, LAVCA is tuition-free and open to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade throughout Louisiana. Beginning in 6th grade, students can also participate in a blended learning experience, with in-person instruction and remediation sessions offered four days a week at learning centers in Baton Rouge and Lafayette.

"At LAVCA, we believe students and families should be empowered to choose the right learning path for them," said Head of School Danielle Scott-Johnson. "We are proud to provide Louisiana families with a blended education option that prepares students for the future, and taps into each student’s unique needs, goals and talents."

Combining innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led by state-certified teachers, LAVCA provides each student with a personalized learning experience. Students take a full course load across the core subjects of math, science, language arts and history, as well as electives, world languages and honors courses at the high school level.

LAVCA’s dedicated staff facilitate lessons during live, interactive online classes. In addition, teachers offer one-on-one instruction, online chat sessions and family phone calls to build close partnerships with parents and students to support academic success. The online platform enables students to enjoy a safe learning environment, and connect with classmates and teachers from across the state.

Throughout the year, LAVCA builds a sense of community through in-person field trips, community service opportunities and social outings, and celebrates graduating seniors with an in-person commencement ceremony in the spring. Virtual clubs and student organizations also allow students to further explore their interests together in the online setting.

LAVCA is accepting enrollment for the 2018-19 school year. Families are encouraged to attend an online or in-person information session hosted by the school.
