Unum Named a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--()--Unum (NYSE: UNM) has been named one of the 2018 Disability Equality Index® (DEI) “Best Places to Work” by the United States Business Leadership Network, now known as Disability: IN, and the American Association of People with Disabilities.

“At Unum, we’re focused on creating a workplace where everyone’s ideas are heard, and where every individual feels welcome and respected and is afforded the chance to succeed,” said Lisa Iglesias, executive vice president and general counsel. “This is a great benchmark to measure our success with disability inclusion and spot opportunities for improvement.”

The benchmark offers an objective measure of disability inclusion practices and procedures. Companies are rated on several key performance indicators including culture, leadership, accessibility, employment, community engagement, support services and supplier diversity.

Unum offers a variety of programs, benefits and resources to ensure that inclusion is embedded in its culture so that all employees can reach their full potential. To help Unum achieve this goal, more than 400 employees are involved in Employee Resource Groups to champion initiatives related to creating an inclusive culture.

The company’s Ability Employee Resource Group is a community of employees working with disabilities, caregivers to family members and disability allies. The group seeks to increase awareness of working with disabilities and helps others understand the challenges they face, explores ways better connect with customers and empowers the positive abilities of employees living with a disability.
