CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OncLive®’s Giants of Cancer Care® recognition program is proud to announce George D. Demetri, MD as the 2019-2020 Giants of Cancer Care® Advisory Board chair. Dr. Demetri, a 2014 inductee into the Giants program for Gastrointestinal Cancer and an advisory board member for the past 3 years, will oversee both the advisory board and nomination process. He will be taking over for Dr. Patrick Borgen, who remains a member of the board and is Director of the Brooklyn Breast Cancer Program at Maimonides Hospital. Dr. Borgen led this program to its success over the past two years with the expansion of both the advisory board and the selection committees, and helped lead the program to a larger international presence, allowing for an increased notoriety. Under his guidance in 2018, the program saw its largest class of nominees in its history.

Dr. Demetri, a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, is currently the Senior Vice President for Experimental Therapeutics at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Director of the Sarcoma Center at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, and Co-Director of the Ludwig Center at Harvard Medical School. His research and clinical interests have focused on mechanism-based drug development for solid tumors, with a particular emphasis on molecularly-defined subsets of sarcomas such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). In addition, Dr. Demetri also serves as Chair of the Science Policy and Government Affairs Committee of the American Association for Cancer Research, as well as several scientific and editorial advisory boards.
