MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation has partnered with Optum to expand access to high-quality, evidence-based addiction treatment services, including specialty programs and medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder, to individuals and families with Optum behavioral health coverage through an employer-sponsored or individual health insurance plan.
Eligible members now have in-network access to the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’s national system of care at 14 treatment locations in California, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Oregon and New York. In addition to its standard residential and outpatient substance use treatment services, the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation offers specialized programs for attorneys, nurses, physicians and other professionals, as well as specialty care and services for adolescents and young adults. Programs are also available for families and kids faced with a loved one's addiction, including the Betty Ford Center Children's Program, which provides education and support for children of a parent with a substance use issue.
“The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation has been a leader in the addiction treatment field for nearly 70 years,” said Debra Nussbaum, director of behavioral product at Optum. “We’re honored to partner with an innovative and well-regarded organization to help the people we serve access the highest-quality substance use treatment and support.”
The most recent National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that over 20 million Americans age 12 and older needed some form of substance use treatment in the past year, but only about one in 10 of them actually received treatment. The national opioid epidemic and increasingly complex patient profiles – often involving co-occurring mental health concerns – have driven a growing need for specialized substance use treatment services that integrate medical and behavioral treatment with ongoing social support. Overdose deaths due to opioids, which include prescription pain relievers and heroin, continue to surge across the country and now kill more Americans each year than car accidents and firearms, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
“We’re excited to offer Optum commercial plan members access to the very best residential and outpatient substance use treatment programs available,” said Pablo McCabe, LCSW, director of national and strategic accounts for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. “As the need for quality treatment continues to grow, this partnership furthers our goal of helping as many people as possible get the right level of support, structure and resources they need to achieve long-term success.”
