MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the world’s leading cyber security company, today announced that more than 16,000 law enforcement personnel are better equipped to fight identity theft as a result of the FBI-LEEDA – LifeLock Identity Theft Training Summit program. These summits in collaboration with FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Association (FBI-LEEDA) address a range of identity theft issues presented by distinguished law enforcement personnel with specialized skills and experience in identity theft, high technology crimes and fraud. Attendees benefit from real-world scenarios and technical demos to not just combat identity theft, but to also understand the economic, personal and employment impacts to victims.
In the U.S. alone, nearly 60 million Americans have been affected by identity theft1.
“For those on the front lines, identity theft investigations can be complex,” said Paige Hanson, Chief of Identity Education, Symantec. “There has never been a greater need for our community leaders and law enforcement organizations to step forward and help their fellow residents navigate the complex and rapidly evolving identity theft landscape. We’re proud to partner with FBI-LEEDA to support local law enforcement and deter identity thieves.”
Symantec and FBI-LEEDA will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the program in October and officially complete 250 summits. Upcoming trainings include:
- July 10: Fargo, N.D.
- July 19: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
- August 7-8: Mission, Kan.
- September 11: Boise, Idaho
- October 2: Birmingham, Ala.
“Our nation’s law enforcement community has greatly benefited from the 10-year relationship between FBI-LEEDA and Symantec,” said Charles Robb, executive director at FBI-LEEDA. “Our partnership has allowed us to provide this training to thousands of police officers in all 50 states. The most rewarding part of this training program for me, is seeing the officers learn this information for the first time and knowing how much it will benefit the communities they serve through comprehensive investigations and subsequent prosecutions of identity thieves.”
The FBI-LEEDA – LifeLock Identity Theft Training Summits are available to law enforcement, including: prosecutors, command level, investigative personnel, and patrol officers for free. Financial industry investigators and analysts may also attend the training. To learn more, please visit https://fbileeda.org.
