iQ Academy California-Los Angeles to Celebrate Class of 2018

Online Public Charter School to Hold In-Person Graduation Ceremony on June 19

SIMI VALLEY, Calif.--()--iQ Academy California-Los Angeles (iQLA), a full-time online public charter school, will celebrate the Class of 2018 with an in-person graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 19 at 2 p.m. at Brea Community Center.

Thirty-nine students will graduate from iQLA, which allows students in kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura counties to learn in a way that is right for them through a personalized learning approach.

Members of the Class of 2018 report that they have been accepted to a number of colleges and universities, including University of Redlands, University of the Pacific, Neumont University, Pierce College, Otis College of Art and Design, Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing, and Bakersfield College, among others. In addition, six students intend to enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“At iQ Academy, our unique approach to personalized learning helps put students on a path to success,” said Cathy Andrew, head of school at iQLA. “We can’t wait to see what the future holds for our graduates, who have become independent, self-motivated learners.”

Nearly 40 percent of the Class of 2018 will graduate with honors, with eight students receiving a Golden State Seal Merit Diploma and one receiving a State Seal of Biliteracy.

Therese Attao and Divina Valdez Gutierrez both maintained a 4.0 grade-point average throughout high school and will serve as co-valedictorians. Attao plans to attend Oxnard or Ventura Community College for dental hygiene, while Valdez Gutierrez will attend Cal State Fullerton to study business. Both students will deliver valedictory remarks.

Lieutenant Colonel Daniel E. Woodward of the California State Military Reserve is the keynote speaker, and iQLA teachers and staff will be in attendance to celebrate the students’ achievements.

Through in-person outings and weekly live help sessions with California-credentialed teachers, iQLA students work toward graduation with individualized learning plans to accommodate and foster different learning styles.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including a safe learning environment, advanced learning options and the ability to support extracurricular pursuits or medical needs.
