Texas Online Preparatory School to Hold In-Person Graduation Ceremony

Statewide Online Public School to Celebrate Class of 2018 on June 7 in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Texas--()--Texas Online Preparatory School (TOPS), an accredited, full-time online public school, will hold an in-person graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 7, at 6 p.m. at Huntsville High School.

A school-record 91 students will graduate from TOPS, a college preparatory school that provides students in grades 3-12 across the state with a rigorous education. To attend, students must have met a minimum passing standard on the previous year’s STAAR scores, have had 90 percent attendance during the prior school year, show proof of Texas public school enrollment and (for high school students) be on track to graduate.

The school offers a robust Advanced Learner program, honors and AP® courses and dual credit opportunities, where qualifying students also have the ability to participate in dual enrollment options in college courses tuition free.

Valedictorian Gabrielle Hearn and salutatorian Grey Geisel will each address their classmates. Hearn plans to study psychology at University of Houston-Clear Lake, and Geisel intends to study film, radio and television at the University of Texas at Austin.

“The Class of 2018 is a truly exceptional group of students,” said TOPS head of school Forrest Smith. “We are proud to know that our graduates are equipped with the tools they need to achieve success in life, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.”

Collectively, the Class of 2018 has been offered more than $409,000 in college scholarships. The graduates report that they have been accepted to colleges and universities across the country, including Baylor University, Colorado State University, Dallas Baptist University, DePaul University, Houston Baptist University, Iowa State University, Kansas State University, Lamar University, Lone Star College, Louisiana Tech, Northern Arizona University, Oral Roberts University, Sam Houston State University, Texas A&M University, Texas State University, University of Alabama, University of Colorado and University of Memphis, among others, In addition, three students intend to enter the Armed Forces.

TOPS students have built strong relationships with their classmates during their time with the school. They interact with each other through their virtual classrooms, as well as discussion threads and instant messaging. In addition, TOPS offers in-person activities throughout the year, including field trips and community service projects. Graduation allows the students to celebrate their accomplishment together.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including a safe learning environment, advanced learning options and the ability to support extracurricular pursuits or medical needs.
