Ntrepid Awarded Patent for Cutting-Edge Secure Virtual Machine to Support Misattribution Suite

Company Prioritizes Investment in Research and Development

HERNDON, Va.--()--Ntrepid Corporation, a leading provider of cutting-edge managed attribution solutions, today announced it has been granted US Patent 9,954,825 for its secure virtual machine, specifically as it relates to the start-up, operation, and communication of Passages, Ntrepid’s virtual browser. These patented enhancements protect the trailblazing capabilities of Passages by assuring a secure connection between the host-computing device and the virtual machine (VM). Ntrepid built Passages with the underpinning of 20 years of experience developing turnkey misattribution solutions that conceal every facet of online activity. The product is ideal for law enforcement and national security agencies to conduct missions that require identity obfuscation.

Current methods for launching a virtual machine on a computing device have been known to increase security risk. For example, it may be possible for an attacker to escape the confines of the virtual machine and access the host-computing device while the VM is launching. In addition, like other forms of internet-based communication, security concerns arise when data is transferred between the VM and the host machine. Staying ahead of customer demand, Ntrepid has infused Passages, the only solution of its kind, with first-in-class anonymity and isolation technology to inherently protect organizations from these types of threats.

“The threats on the internet are wide and diverse. Ntrepid's customers are tasked with the challenging position of unmasking the hidden threats. In order to effectively operate in this dangerous environment, they need first-rate anonymizing technology,” said Darby Mullen, Principal Product Security Engineer at Ntrepid and co-inventor of Ntrepid’s secure virtual machine. “Since its inception, the Passages team has built security and anonymity into its product. This allows our customer to work in these hostile environments knowing that their identities are well guarded.”

Passages creates a secure connection, allowing the VM to transfer data files to the host machine using cloud technology. Ntrepid’s cloud storage system acts as the intermediary between the VM and the memory of the host machine. Patent 9,954,825 covers a method of enabling a secure virtual environment for misattributed activity on the user’s local machine while eliminating direct network communication between the operational environment and the local desktop.

Mike Martinka, EVP of Product Engineering and co-inventor of Ntrepid’s secure virtual machine adds, “At Ntrepid, we are dedicated to providing cutting-edge attribution solutions while maintaining quality and security. We build our products to meet the increasing demand for managed attribution capabilities, but emphasize the importance of innovating solutions that greatly improve user performance. Our annual R&D investment is well above the industry average, allowing us to anticipate and proactively solve customer needs before they have even identified them.”
