NEW YORK & PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hearst Health, a division of Hearst, and the Jefferson College of Population Health, part of Jefferson University, today announced the call for submissions is open for the 2019 Hearst Health Prize, the annual $100,000 award given in recognition of outstanding achievement in managing or improving health in the U.S. In addition, up to two finalists will each receive $25,000.
The announcement was made by Gregory Dorn, MD, MPH, president of Hearst Health, and David B. Nash, MD, MBA, dean of the Jefferson College of Population Health.
“We are entering the fourth year of the award and each year we have been amazed at the number of impactful and deserving population health programs,” Dorn said. “Our aim is to highlight programs that are delivering measurable results and improving outcomes, as well as proliferating best practices to grow the field’s research depth.”
The Hearst Health Prize evaluates implemented projects that demonstrate improved health outcomes; it is not a grant program. The deadline for submissions is August 9, 2018. Up to three finalists will be named in January 2019, and the winner will be announced on March 19, 2019 at the 19th annual Population Health Colloquium in Philadelphia. The winner will be awarded $100,000 and up to two finalists will each be awarded $25,000. For full details, including eligibility, submission criteria, application and rules, please visit www.jefferson.edu/HearstHealthPrize.
“The Hearst Health Prize provides a national platform to recognize and reward successful efforts to improve population health,” Nash said. “The winner and the finalists have the opportunity to expand their projects and impact more lives with the exposure they receive from this recognition, and we learn valuable lessons from the work in their field. We encourage everyone doing this important work in the field to share their results and apply for the award this year.”
Applications will be evaluated by faculty at the Jefferson College of Population Health and a distinguished panel of judges. Each submission will be scored based on the program’s:
- Population health impact or outcome, demonstrated by measurable improvement
- Use of evidence-based interventions and best practices to improve the quality of care
- Promotion of communication, collaboration and engagement
- Scalability and sustainability
- Innovation
