BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Blueport Commerce, the leading cloud e-commerce platform for big-ticket retail, today reported a record-breaking five days of online sales for the company’s clients, led by a 101% YoY sales increase on Thanksgiving. Sales peaked again on Cyber Monday, book-ending the five-day holiday period. Cyber Monday sales surpassed last year’s figures, posting a 58% increase and besting Black Friday 2016, previously the largest day in platform history.
Sales growth was driven primarily by conversion, thanks to strong promotional offers, improved user experiences, and increased site performance. On Thanksgiving, retailers’ 101% sales growth was generated with 1% fewer visits compared to the year prior. Platform-wide revenue for the entire five-day holiday period increased 42% YoY with 67% of traffic and 32% of online sales attributed to mobile phones.
Trends over the five days demonstrated the additional, chain-wide impact of retailers’ omnichannel efforts. On Wednesday, the holiday period began with websites generating 9% of chain sales online and 61% of traffic coming from smartphones. On Black Friday and Saturday, with shoppers able to get to stores, the brick-and-mortar channel was the preferred way to shop, with 94% of chain sales occurring in stores and mobile traffic increasing to 70% as shoppers researched deals on the go. By Monday, shoppers were back at work, buying online at a record pace with 17% of chain sales online, and smartphone traffic back down to 62%.
Says Carl Prindle, Blueport Commerce Founder & CEO, “Over the course of the holiday period, Blueport retailers offered seamless online, mobile and in-store experiences, driving unprecedented results, making it easy for shoppers to research and buy when and where they preferred.” He adds, “Results like these shatter expectations - the battle between big-ticket retailers and pure plays like Wayfair and Amazon is far from over.”
