LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Frank Pennachio, Partner in Oceanus Partners, will present “Where's the ‘Care’ in Managed Care? Fixing Misaligned Incentives” at the National Workers’ Compensation and Disability Conference & Expo.
“Entrenched system incentives in workers' compensation managed care regularly misalign employer and service provider interests,” Pennachio said. “Unnecessary, costly and potentially harmful medical treatment is often rewarded rather than eliminated.”
He and Denise Algire, Director of Risk Initiatives and National Medical Director of Albertson Companies, will discuss the flaws in popular payment arrangements, including percentage-of-savings and revenue sharing. “Risk managers often fixate on unallocated expenses and miss the egregiously inflated allocated costs,” he added. “We hope that shedding light on misaligned processes, including those that actually prolong disability, will challenge the industry to radically change some business models.”
Panelists will also explore service-level agreements and methods for measuring quality and outcomes that are beneficial for injured workers. Evidence-based medicine and other quality and outcomes measurement benchmarks will also be covered.
The session will take place Thursday, December 7, at 10:45 a.m. during NWCDC, which will be held at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas from December 6 through 8. For registration and other information, please see http://www.wcconference.com.
