MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aerohive Networks® (NYSE:HIVE), a Cloud Networking leader, announced today that Greenville University has chosen Aerohive for its campus-wide network, deploying Aerohive’s dual 5 GHz solution for superior network performance and efficiency. The university has also achieved greater functionality, network insight, and opportunities using Aerohive’s Application Platform.
Greenville University was founded 125 years ago in 1892 and is a four-year Christian liberal arts college with over 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Located on a 50-acre campus in Greenville, Illinois, the university is within close proximity to the city of St. Louis, giving invaluable opportunities for outreach, fun, hands-on-learning, and civic engagement.
The IT team of Greenville University began moving away from Cisco’s centrally controlled architecture to a distributed model after experiencing numerous challenges across the legacy network, including poor reliability and network connectivity failures. After rigorous evaluations of Aerohive and Aruba, Greenville chose Aerohive and worked with Dell on the network design, as well as leaning on Aerohive for technical expertise, support, and services to build a world-class network to meet the digital device and application needs of its growing student and faculty population.
“Everything about the Aerohive solution allowed flexibility across our entire deployment at Greenville University,” explains Johnny Matthews, CTO of Greenville University. “When we upgraded to a cloud-based wireless network, we also gained features and seamless network management that will carry us into future network expansion and development. Features like dual 5 GHz radios, PPSK and the access to Aerohive APIs, allow our IT team to develop solutions that bring the best possible outcomes for our guests, students, faculty, and staff.”
Greenville deployed Aerohive AP130, AP250, AP550, and AP245X access points with external antennas. The university uses HiveManager NG for a complete wireless network management solution, including the management of Dell switches, as well as Aerohive’s Private Pre-Shared Key (PPSK) innovative feature.
Leveraging Aerohive’s access points with software-selectable radios, Greenville has realized far greater speeds with more channels and less interference – simplifying its network deployment and management. Access points such as the AP250 and AP550 can be switched to dual 5 GHz band mode, allowing for improved flexibility, better network efficiency, and optimal Wi-Fi design.
A key selling point for Aerohive was the ability for Greenville’s CTO to use Aerohive APIs. The potential for building new applications with Aerohive’s monitoring, location and identity APIs opened a world of opportunity to use the new wireless network as a solution tool to potentially replace other applications.
