NEW YORK--()--RubiconMD, the New York City-based company that enables primary care providers to access same-day eConsults from top medical specialists, announced today that they are expanding their work in California through a direct investment from the Heritage Provider Network. In addition, Hal Yee Jr., M.D., Ph.D., the Chief Medical Officer of Los Angeles County’s Department of Health Services, has joined RubiconMD’s Advisory Board, and Christine Peterson, previously of Omada Health, is joining RubiconMD’s west coast team as Head of Customer Success. These announcements follow a direct investment in 2016 from the California Health Care Foundation’s Health Innovation Fund and a successful ongoing partnership with the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

“We’ve seen great success from our work in California with local providers and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital,” said RubiconMD’s CEO and Co-founder, Gil Addo. “The healthcare system in California is one of the most forward-thinking in the country, and we’ve always had our sights set on establishing a fuller presence in the area. These strategic partnerships and hires underscore our commitment to build a core practice on the West Coast and specifically reach underserved populations.”

A direct investment from Heritage Provider Network will help RubiconMD continue its mission of unlocking medical expertise through access to same-day eConsults in Southern and Central California. Heritage Provider Network is one of the largest independent practice associations in the country and provides medical care programs and services to its members in Southern and Central California.

“RubiconMD is committed to using innovative solutions to transform primary care,” said President and CEO of the Heritage Provider Network, Dr. Richard Merkin. “eConsults improve access and efficiency to speciality care while reducing costs for patients and providers. We’re excited to have a hand in RubiconMD’s mission to reduce barriers to quality care for Californians.”

To further increase RubiconMD’s California infrastructure, the company is excited to announce its hire of Christine Peterson, who joins RubiconMD’s Berkeley, California office as Head of Customer Success. Most recently, Peterson worked at San Francisco-based Omada Health, where she founded and led the user support and customer success functions as their sixth employee. With RubiconMD, she will oversee the recruitment and development of a national customer success team.

"RubiconMD is an incredibly smart group of people with a noble, clear, and actionable mission to do good in the U.S. healthcare system,” said Peterson.

RubiconMD also welcomes the “father” of eConsults, Hal Yee Jr., M.D., Ph.D., to its Advisory Board. Dr. Yee conceived of eConsults in 2005 and served as an architect for the initial implementation of the concept in San Francisco. Currently, Dr. Yee is the Chief Medical Officer for Los Angeles County’s Department of Health Services, where he led the team that operationalized the largest formal eConsult program in the country, and which now manages nearly 20,000 eConsults per month.
