Abalta Technologies Joins SmartDeviceLink Consortium

The Company Joins an Industry-Wide Effort Enabling Easy Access to Smartphone Apps in the Car

SAN DIEGO--()--Abalta Technologies, a leading provider of technology and infotainment solutions for the connected car, today announced that the company has joined the SmartDeviceLink Consortium (SDLC), a nonprofit organization working to manage an open source software platform with the goal of giving consumers more choice in how they connect and control their smartphone apps on the road.

SmartDeviceLink (SDL) provides consumers easy access to smartphone apps using voice commands and in-vehicle displays. Adopting the open source platform gives automakers and suppliers a uniform standard with which to integrate apps. Going forward, Abalta will provide automakers and suppliers with SDL-compatible solutions that integrate with the company’s own product offerings, including WebLink, a technology platform which enables users to enjoy their favorite mobile apps in the car.

“We share the vision of the SmartDeviceLink Consortium, and we are excited to join with forward-thinking leaders of the automotive industry to help ensure that consumers are able to seamlessly enjoy the apps and services they care about in their vehicles,” said Michael O’Shea, CEO and Founder of Abalta Technologies. “For everyone involved in the connected car ecosystem, the keys to success are interoperability and providing easy access to content and services. Voice is increasingly at the center of the conversation, and joining the SDLC is a strong step in the right direction for Abalta.”

“We are pleased to welcome Abalta Technologies to the SmartDeviceLink Consortium,” said Doug VanDagens, chairman of SmartDeviceLink Consortium. “Companies from all over the automotive industry are recognizing the need for a standard, scalable platform that will speed the adoption of new technologies across millions of vehicles.”

SmartDeviceLink enables smartphone app developers to seamlessly integrate their app functions with in-vehicle technology such as the vehicle display screen, steering wheel controls and voice recognition.
