Secret Congratulates Beth Mowins on Becoming the First Woman to Announce a Monday Night Football Game

CINCINNATI--()--Secret, the leading antiperspirant for 60 years, has partnered with the National Football League (NFL) for the 2017 season to celebrate women in the football industry who are breaking down cultural barriers for females everywhere.

While research shows that women who work in male-dominated industries are more likely to exhibit stress, women are taking on, and succeeding in, top-ranking positions in the football industry, ranging from C-suite executives to senior leadership roles at the team level.1 In fact, over the past decade, the number of full-time female employees at the NFL has grown by 30 percent.

At Secret, we understand the pressures women face both in their personal and professional lives on a daily basis,” said Janine Miletic, Brand Director for Secret. “When you add the stress of working in a male-dominated industry to navigating societal and cultural expectations, it can be a very real barrier to achieving your dreams. The women in the NFL are exceptional examples of people who have dedicated their lives and careers to redefining expectations. Our hope is that with more visibility, they can inspire even more women to take their careers and the inevitable stress head-on.”

To inspire fearlessness and perseverance among women everywhere, Secret is collaborating with five women around the NFL to tell their stories of courage and resilience in a content series that will go live throughout the season. The first video features modern trailblazer and ESPN and CBS Sportscaster Beth Mowins. Tonight, Monday, Sept. 11, Mowins will become the first woman in history to call play-by-play for a Monday Night Football game and the first female to announce an NFL regular season game in 30 years. Mowins will call the season kick-off game between the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers in Denver, Colorado.

Women are an undeniable part of what fuels the NFL,” said Mowins. “I hope that my partnership with Secret is yet another way to show that there are passionate women out there who are being bold, pushing boundaries and doing whatever it takes to accomplish their dreams.”

As a tribute to Mowins, Secret enlisted nine powerful women within the football industry to congratulate her history-making accomplishment. The congratulatory video, which lives on Secret’s YouTube page, YouTube.com/SecretDeodorant, features Mowins’ peers, including:

  • Gayle Sierens, Former Broadcast Journalist and first female NFL play-by-play announcer (1987)
  • Renie Anderson, SVP of Sponsorship & Partnership Management, NFL
  • Katie Blackburn, Executive Vice President, Cincinnati Bengals
  • Jacqueline Davidson, Director of Football Administration, New York Jets
  • Kimberly Fields, Special Assistant to the Commissioner, NFL
  • Dawn Hudson, Chief Marketing Officer, NFL
  • Samantha Ponder, Sunday NFL Countdown Host, ESPN
  • Michele Tafoya, Sunday Night Football Sideline Reporter, NBC Sports
  • Charissa Thompson, Host & Sportscaster, Fox Sports 1

Following the release of the tribute video for Mowins on Sept. 11, Secret will release a four-part video series to highlight powerful females who, similar to Mowins, have inspirational stories of accomplishment in a male-dominated industry. The women featured in the series include Ponder, Davidson, Fields and Tafoya. The series will live on Secret’s YouTube page, YouTube.com/SecretDeodorant.
