LONDON--()--Technavio analysts forecast the ferric chloride market in MENA to grow at a CAGR of 4% during the forecast period, according to their latest report.

The research study covers the present scenario and growth prospects of the global ferric chloride market in MENA for 2017-2021. The market is segmented based on application (water and wastewater treatment and PCB) and geography (KSA, Oman, UAE, Egypt, RoGCC, and RoMENA).

The ferric chloride market in MENA is expected to grow due to the increasing use by industries such as petrochemicals and refineries. There is a significant growth in the demand for the reuse of water due to lower cost of chemicals such as ferric chloride and the rising regulations on wastewater treatment. Additionally, the government supports the domestic manufacturers by buying and procuring products only from local markets. The increasing regulations and cost effectivity are the two main factors that are increasing the competition among manufacturers and witnessing a rise in participants.

Growth in industrial sector

The industries using wastewater treatment plants like petrochemicals and refineries are estimated to grow during the forecast period, thus increasing the demand for water treatment chemicals. The manufacturing sector boosts the water treatment industry, and with rapid industrialization in these developing economies, the demand for effluent treatment is expected to increase.

Ajay Adhikari, a lead specialty chemicals research analyst at Technavio, says, “Municipalities use ferric chloride to ensure the quality of potable water and treat wastewater before it can either be released into the environment or used for applications rather than consumption and human use. The growing water demand due to the increased economic growth, improvements in the standard of living, and high population growth rate will enhance the ferric chloride in MENA.”

Re-use of wastewater by industries

Industries have been re-using water by treating it with inexpensive chemicals, leading to a cost-effective production and optimum utilization of resources. Adequate treatment can be useful for the recycling of seawater and wastewater as it can be used for purposes such as consumption, agriculture, irrigation, and industrial processes, thereby enabling the communities and countries to stretch the limited freshwater supplies.

“Many GCC countries maintain a standard of reusing more than 70% of wastewater and have a target of achieving 100% reuse of treated sewage effluent within the next few years. This creates the demand for ferric chloride in the treatment of these waste and sewage water. Industries use ferric chloride mainly to prevent wear and tear of their equipment, reuse as much water as possible, and ensure that the discharged water does not affect the environment,” adds Ajay.

Regulatory norms encouraging wastewater treatment

The government is keen on monitoring the industry's activities in wastewater discharge. As industries are considering optimizing their operations along with aligning themselves with the regulations set by local authorities and bodies, more effective treatment solutions for usage of ferric chloride will be sought globally.

Industrial wastewater contains contaminants, and special processes and methods must be adopted to ensure that wastewater is processed to eliminate harmful colloidal substances from water. All industrial wastewater facilities must have an environmental compliance approval to establish a new wastewater treatment facility or to use, operate, or change an existing facility.
