IDERA Enhances Business Architecture Capabilities with Latest ER/Studio Release

Improved process modeling allows business analysts to design, document and optimize business processes

HOUSTON--()--IDERA, a leading provider of database lifecycle management solutions, has released ER/Studio 17, incorporating significant updates to its Business Architect process modeling tool. The new capabilities will help business analysts map and model relationships between people, processes and data as the foundation for enterprise architecture and data governance initiatives.

As companies continue to grow and change, capturing everything involved in how a business works can be challenging. ER/Studio Business Architect provides a common language to help users bridge the communication gap between business process design and implementation.

Key features include Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) 2.0 compliance and validation that combine intuitive visual modeling with the rich semantics of the BPMN 2.0 standard. ER/Studio 17 enables businesses to communicate about business processes in a clear and consistent manner. Even the most complex processes can be decomposed, modeled and understood using comprehensive capabilities and constructs for choreography, conversation and collaboration business processes.

Validation against the BPMN 2.0 standard ensures that process models meet all the requirements for organizations that need it, and can be turned off for those that do not require rigorous adherence to the standard.

“It is crucial for an organization to map out their business processes in order to effectively manage their operations and achieve their goals,” said John O'Brien, principal advisor and CEO, Radiant Advisors. “ER/Studio Business Architect gives companies the capabilities to clearly document all aspects of those processes, identify any gaps or inefficiencies and communicate them across the organization.”

“Many companies recognize the importance of data governance, and realize that they need a proper structure in place to manage their data and metadata to achieve the objectives of a data governance initiative,” said David Loshin, president of Knowledge Integrity, Inc. “ER/Studio enables these companies to create and maintain that data architecture structure, from business processes through to data models, with consistent metadata referenced across them.”

ER/Studio Business Architect 17 features and benefits include:

  • Deep functionality for conceptual modeling, business process modeling and capturing the connections between people, processes and data.
  • Business process models that can be documented and validated with BPMN 2.0 conventions.
  • Conceptual models to show the high-level visual representation of an organization and its important data.
  • Compliance with internal business standards and external mandatory regulations by identifying sensitive data elements.
  • Cross-functional communication to better define a business-driven enterprise data architecture.
  • Availability as a stand-alone product or integrated with the ER/Studio Enterprise Team Edition suite.

ER/Studio Enterprise Team Edition provides additional updates for this release, including performance and publishing improvements for the collaborative model and metadata repository (Team Server), and additions and updates to the relational and NoSQL import and export bridges (MetaWizard). These enhancements further improve the customer experience and the ability to map the entire data landscape.

"ER/Studio has provided integrated data and business process modeling for more than ten years," said Ron Huizenga, senior product manager at IDERA. "With many organizations seeing a significant increase in data, along with increased emphasis on regulatory compliance, it’s clear that having a solid strategy for both data and process management is extremely important. ER/Studio provides a comprehensive platform that allows businesses to establish enterprise architecture, effectively managing processes and data across the organization, forming a solid foundation for governance."
