CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Teza Capital Management LLC announced that Dr. Reinhold Gebert, 51, has joined the firm as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Risk Officer. Gebert most recently held the same positions at Gresham Investment Management, where he created their dedicated risk management group, initiated their expansion into systematic trading strategies, and re-engineered their middle and back office.
Like Misha Malyshev, Teza’s founder and CEO, Gebert holds advanced degrees in both mathematics and theoretical physics. Gebert was a Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, while Malyshev earned his Ph.D. at Princeton University. The two researchers developed their professional and personal relationships while working together as consultants at McKinsey & Company in the early 2000s.
Malyshev left McKinsey to manage a very successful high frequency trading group at a large Chicago hedge fund. He later founded Teza, a proprietary trading firm, in 2009. After McKinsey, Gebert joined the Investment Management Division at Lehman Brothers, and then went on to become a Managing Director at Barclays Wealth, leading strategy and business development and running operations.

Dr. Reinhold W. Gebert served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Risk Officer at Gresham Investment Management, an $8 billion commodities hedge fund in New York, from 2012 to July 2017. There he was a member of the Executive Committee, the Investment Risk Committees, and the Enterprise Risk Management Committee. Previously, in addition to stints at two successful startups, Gebert was Managing Director and CAO of the wealth management business at Barclays Wealth Americas. Prior to that, he was SVP and CAO of Private Investment Management at Lehman Brothers. He spent four years at McKinsey & Company in their financial services practices. Gebert conducted postdoctoral research and authored numerous articles in superstring theory at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and earned his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Hamburg. His M.Sc. in Mathematics is from King’s College London and he completed his undergraduate studies in physics at the Technical University of Munich.
