Publicity Club of New England Celebrates Excellence in Communications at its 49th Annual Bell Ringers Gala

BOSTON--()--The Publicity Club of New England, the region’s leading communications trade organization, announced the winners of its 49th annual Bell Ringer Awards at The Revere Hotel last night. The awards gala honors public relations and communications professionals from more than 55 agencies, companies, and nonprofits from across New England in more than 40 categories from one-time executions to multi-year campaigns.

The Publicity Club’s prestigious Platinum Super Bell Award, given to the organization that executes the best communications campaign of the year, went to Wayfair, one of the world’s largest online destinations for home furnishings and décor, for its “Couples Say 'I Do' to Wayfair's Wedding Registry.” This multifaceted campaign secured 40 million media impressions in publications such as The Huffington Post, The Knot, Brides, Parade, and more, and drove thousands of dollars in registry revenue.

Other Platinum Super Bell finalists included MSL Group’s campaign for Braeburn Pharmaceuticals, Boston Children’s Hospital for Bentley’s Second Chance, Racepoint Global for Huawei, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems for an employee-facing campaign, and Cone Communications for Re-Think: Why Housing Matters, Challenging Misperceptions of Public Housing. The evening’s top winners were 360 Public Relations with 12 awards while both Duffy & Shanley and SHIFT Communications took home 10 awards each. A full list of all winners is available at the Publicity Club’s Web site.

The Publicity Club also recognized Laura Tomasetti, CEO and founder of 360PR+, awarding her the 2017 John J. Molloy Crystal Bell Lifetime Achievement Award for her significant achievements in the industry.

“I am honored to be among the list of Crystal Bell recipients, many of whom I consider mentors and friends,” said Tomasetti. “I share this award with our entire team at 360. I’m so grateful for the creative work we’re doing together and for the way they challenge me to be a better leader every day.”

The Club also presented two professional awards last evening. Deanna Haas from Hollywood Public Relations was the recipient of the 2017 Striker Award that recognizes the practitioner who demonstrates an early passion for public relations, a dedication to his/her career, and a superior work ethic. Meredith Eaton from March Communications received the 2017 Ringer Award that recognizes a midlevel public relations or communications practitioner who has excelled in the industry and is known by colleagues and clients as a model practitioner.

The Club also continued its commitment to supporting the next generation of PR professionals by awarding the 2017 William Cavanaugh Student Grant to Aya Tsuruta of Boston College in honor of her superior academic achievement.

This year’s Bell Ringer Awards ceremony was hosted by Josh Brogadir, sports reporter/anchor at WCVB Channel 5, who selected the Massachusetts chapter of the ALS Foundation as the recipient of this year’s charity-auction proceeds that totaled more than $2,000.
