McLaren Health Care Expands Partnership with Premier Inc.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--()--McLaren Health Care, a Michigan-based healthcare network, has expanded its partnership with Premier Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), a healthcare improvement company, to deploy the PremierConnect® Enterprise cloud-based data warehousing and business intelligence platform.

The fully-integrated McLaren system maintains operations in 350 facilities across Michigan, including 12 hospitals, and offers a statewide network of more than 47,000 physicians and ancillary providers. The system also includes home health and hospice services, commercial and Medicaid HMOs, and the state’s largest cancer care network, anchored by the NCI-designated Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit.

For more than 20 years, McLaren has used Premier supply chain services and solutions to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care. By expanding its partnership, McLaren will use PremierConnect Enterprise for insights that drive strategic and operational decisions, and engage stakeholders from across the system in the decision-making process.

“As an integrated health system, having flexible IT capabilities to quickly pinpoint areas of opportunity and predict future challenges is extremely valuable,” said Philip A. Incarnati, president and CEO of McLaren, and a member of Premier’s board of directors. “We need to see the whole picture in order to meaningfully improve care quality in the most efficient way possible. We plan to use PremierConnect Enterprise to make informed decisions and drive performance improvement across the organization.”

PremierConnect Enterprise accesses, integrates and interprets clinical, financial and operational data to produce actionable, predictive and prescriptive insights. For example, health systems can pull claims data into the platform, standardize it and create a custom dashboard that compares physician performance to like peer groups, allowing leadership to identify gaps and make more informed physician recruiting decisions.

“McLaren encourages innovation and improvement in every corner of their organization,” said Leigh Anderson, senior vice president and chief information officer at Premier. “This requires the ability to not only predict potential problems and risks, but proactively mitigate them in a timely manner to avoid missed opportunities. We are looking forward to working with McLaren to help them tackle current and future challenges within their clinically integrated network, as well as align clinical initiatives across the continuum so they can focus on their patients.”

Backed by clinical outcomes data from 40 percent of U.S. patient discharges and $50 billion in annual provider purchases, PremierConnect Enterprise enables real-time access to system-wide insights and national peer comparisons.

The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
