U.S. Remains Top Market for Value Growth for Vinho Verde Wines

Single Varietal Offerings Continue to Capture Interest

NEW YORK--()--Overall exports of Vinho Verde wines to the U.S. continue to grow at a steady clip, up +37% in value, over the two year period – 2014 to 2016, and +15% in volume over that same period*. This growth reinforces the American market as the #1 market by value for these wines, globally.

High demand for the region’s quality driven, single varietal wines is the driving force behind the double-digit growth. As new distribution channels open up for the Vinho Verde category, wines from indigenous grapes like Alvarinho, Loureiro, and Espadeiro are finding their way onto store shelves and wine lists in key markets across the country.

Today's Vinho Verde producers are very ambitious and are taking advantage of new trends and innovations to produce the very best Vinho Verde wines we have seen yet,” said Carla Cunha, Marketing Director of the Comissão de Viticultura da Região Vinhos Verdes (CVRVV). As a result, the region provides a multitude of award-winning wines that can compete on the world stage, and consumers and trade are taking notice.

The CVRVV will host a consumer wine event in New York City this June, and welcome all wine lovers to join them. The Vinho Verde Wine Experience will take place on June 17, 2017 at Weylin, from 6:00-10:00pm. More information on the event and tickets can be found at: https://www.vinhoverdewineexperience.com/.
