HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Waste Management (NYSE: WM) has been recognized as a leader among companies from around the world by environmental not-for-profit CDP for the depth and quality of climate change data it discloses to investors and the global marketplace.
Waste Management’s leadership status was announced in CDP’s 2016 Climate A List, which includes those companies from around the world that have been identified as leading in their efforts and actions to combat climate change in the past CDP reporting year. Thousands of companies submitted information to CDP to be independently assessed. Of those, Waste Management was in the 9% that were awarded an “A” grade for performance.
“At Waste Management, environmental stewardship is inextricably linked to our business performance and we’re honored by this prestigious recognition,” said David P. Steiner, Chief Executive Officer of Waste Management. “We know the work we do on our customers’ behalf to protect the environment makes a big difference for our planet and our transparency regarding the company’s economic, environmental and social performance illustrates our ongoing commitment to sustainable business operations.”
Waste Management has been included in CDP’s survey results since 2004, but this is the first year that Waste Management has achieved a position in CDP’s Climate A List. The Climate A List is released in CDP’s Out of the starting blocks: Tracking progress on corporate climate action report. The report, which establishes the baseline for corporate climate action, reveals that global corporations have started the transition to a low-carbon economy and some are already capitalizing on the opportunities this affords. Companies’ progress on reducing emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement will be tracked against this baseline in future annual reports. The 2016 Climate A List, including names of companies featured in the report, can be found at https://www.cdp.net/en.
CDP is a not-for-profit that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts.
