IDG Wins Prestigious Summit International Marketing Effectiveness Award for Global Brand Initiative

New branding unifies company’s corporate identity and showcases the breadth of its global product portfolio to clients and consumers

NEW YORK--()--IDG, the world’s largest technology media, data and marketing services company, is the winner of a Platinum Award in the Redesign/Rebrand category of the 2016 Summit Marketing Effectiveness Awards. IDG received the award for its first-ever companywide branding initiative, which was launched in March 2016 to unify the company’s corporate identity and showcase the full breadth of its global product portfolio to clients and consumers.

“Winning a Summit Marketing Effectiveness Award is wonderful recognition of the successful work we’ve done to develop new branding that truly reflects IDG’s strengths globally,” said Josh London, IDG’s Chief Marketing Officer. “The new brand positioning highlights IDG’s singular ability to meet the needs of marketers in reaching the most powerful audience of tech buyers in the world. We used the company’s presence in 97 countries to identify and engage employee brand ambassadors around the world to create excitement and engagement and drove messaging from the inside out.”

As marketers increasingly look to buy audiences as well as properties, IDG needed to move from a house of brands to a branded house. Historically known for its powerful global brands such as CIO, Computerworld, Macworld and PCWorld, IDG developed and launched its first-ever companywide branding initiative to reflect its evolution from a brand-driven publisher to a global media company that activates and engages the most influential technology buyers, offering premium brands and audiences on a worldwide scale. IDG’s new tagline highlights the company’s strategy to connect the world of tech buyers with “Insights, Intent & Engagement.”

Founded in 1964, IDG grew from a business offering research and a single customer newsletter to become the #1 technology media company in the world, according to comScore*. Today, IDG delivers a portfolio of capabilities spanning media, data, marketing services, video, events and international print. The company derives nearly 90 percent of its revenue from digital solutions.

IDG’s brand campaign was widely covered in the press, garnering 63 million impressions, including mentions in the Forbes article “How A Brand Evolution Drove A Cultural Transformation” and Marketing Land’s article: “A CMO’s View: How IDG rebranded 100+ media properties”.

The Summit Marketing Effectiveness Award (Summit MEA) responds to a common need in the marketing and advertising sector: to acknowledge the contribution of results and messaging, and the achievement of the marketer’s business goals. The Summit MEA is unique to other award programs because it reinforces that the true purpose of marketing communications is to change, influence or reinforce an audience's knowledge, attitudes, or beliefs. Using this premise as a basis for its judging criteria, the competition is becoming a true arbiter of marketing communication effectiveness. During the 2016 event, judges analyzed submissions and selected only 6% to receive the top spots.

More than 1,100 entries from countries around the world were submitted for the 2016 Summit MEA Awards. The SIA is an independent, international organization focused on creating a community of marketing creativity, effectiveness and excellence. Its judging process is designed to be impartial and free from outside influences by withholding both the names of the judges on its panels as well as the contestant's names throughout the entire evaluation process. Both judge's and contestant's names are withheld until after award winning entries are selected. This anonymity shelters all involved from any vested interest which may attempt to influence the judges' opinions or the judging process.

“Distinguishing between creativity and effectiveness is a difficult task so winning a Summit MEA is a significant achievement,” said Jocelyn Luciano, Executive Director for the Summit International Awards. “The combination of experienced judges and our tough criteria ensures that only deserving submissions receive Summit MEA recognition.”
