PHILADELPHIA--()--Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS), the award-winning data research platform and business intelligence tool for corporate, academic and government institutions worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of the American Hospital Association Data to its platform. A part of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, WRDS provides global corporations, universities and regulatory agencies the thought leadership, data access and insights needed to accelerate impact.

AHA Data represents the single best source for credible, consistent information about the nation’s hospitals, featuring streamlined access to multiple data sets.

AHA Annual Survey Database (ASDB) can be matched with public data sets using the Medicare Provider Number, expanding research opportunities for longitudinal healthcare research. WRDS subscribers can extract valuable demographic, operational, staffing, employment model, insurance and utilization characteristics for hospitals, providing an essential foundation to valuable health care research.

ASDB combined with financial data sourced from the Healthcare Provider Cost Reporting Information System (HCRIS) managed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid gives a broader financial view of Medicare-certified hospitals including income statement, balance sheet, and key calculated metrics.

The AHA IT Healthcare Database allows researchers to analyze healthcare IT indicators including the depth and level of technology integration; hospital readiness for achieving meaningful use and their intent to apply for incentive payments, EHR interoperability capabilities, and primary inpatient and outpatient vendors used for the EHR/EMR systems.

“We are extremely pleased to offer American Hospital Association data to our WRDS academic researchers,” said Robert Zarazowski, Managing Director of WRDS. “As healthcare costs, financing and investment opportunities continue to expand, having the most reliable information on this burgeoning field is essential. I know that AHA data will be beneficial to our users across a range of disciplines.”

“The AHA is committed to sharing information and data with the field that can inform and drive efforts to improve health care,” said C. Douglas Shaw, Chief Operating and Development Officer of Health Forum, a strategic business enterprise of the American Hospital Association. “We believe the Wharton School and its research platform will provide an excellent way to make our historical hospital data available and accessible.”
