Voting for the Medline Pink Glove Dance video competition is open. Help determine which breast cancer related charities will receive a donation on behalf of the winning teams.

MUNDELEIN, Ill.--()--The Medline Pink Glove Dance video competition is the only breast cancer awareness campaign to unite thousands of healthcare professionals, breast cancer patients, survivors and communities – all through the joy of dancing. Each year, participants film a 90 second dance video while sporting pink exam gloves and raise money for their breast cancer charity of choice. From 12 p.m. CDT on Sept. 12 through 5 p.m. CDT on Sept. 23, Medline is encouraging the public to vote for their favorite Pink Glove Dance video and help determine which breast cancer related charities will receive a donation on behalf of the winning teams.

“What began as an effort to win a video contest and bring awareness to breast cancer became so much more throughout the event. Our team came together in recognition of those we have lost and the many breast cancer survivors we work alongside every day,” said Mark Nix, President and CEO of Infirmary Health in Mobile, Ala., the grand prize winner of the 2015 Medline Pink Glove Dance Video Competition. “I encourage everyone to vote for their favorite video. It is critical in ensuring the breast cancer charities receive the necessary donations to continue their efforts of bringing awareness to breast cancer.”

During the voting period, the public can visit the Pink Glove Dance website and vote for their favorite video. Winning videos will be announced Sept. 30 and are chosen based on the number of votes in each of the following categories: 1) Small-Bed; 2) Large-Bed; 3) Non-Healthcare Organization (e.g., non-profit or for-profit business, club, or other non-healthcare organization). A total of $57,500 is up for grabs:

  • The video with the most votes among all the categories will be named the grand prize winner and receive $15,000 from Medline for a designated breast cancer charity of their choice
  • First place in each category will receive a $10,000 donation
  • Second place in each category will receive a $5,000 donation
  • Third place in each category will receive a $2,500 donation

Since the competition’s launch six years ago, $1.4 million has been raised for nearly 200 breast cancer charities nationwide. Here is how a few of the charities used their donation on behalf of the winners of the 2015 Pink Glove Dance video competition:

American Cancer Society, Mid-South Division

A $15,000 donation from Medline on behalf of grand prize winner Infirmary Health helped provide new wigs to female breast cancer patients and fund programs such as Look Good Feel Better, which helps women cope with the appearance related side effects of cancer treatment, and Road to Recovery, a free transportation program to help take patients to and from treatment. Additionally, the donation helped launch ASC.MyLifeLine.org, an online support community for cancer patients.

Bay Area Young Survivors (BAYS)

A $2,500 donation from Medline on behalf of the Sonoma West Medical Foundation helped fund an in-person support group in the Marin County, Calif. area. Scholarships were also provided for six women to attend a Cancer Help Program through Commonweal, as well as scholarships to four women, all with metastatic cancer and with young children, to attend a writing and grief workshop.

“It is our goal to ensure that women in the San Francisco Bay Area going through cancer are not alone and can thrive despite their illness. As an all-volunteer organization, we simply wouldn't be able to do the work that we do without funding from sources like The Medline Pink Glove Dance,” said Meaghan Calcari Campbell, president of Bay Area Young Survivors.

Breast Cancer Resource Center at YWCA of Princeton, N.J.

The University Medical Center of Princeton’s win resulted in a $5,000 donation to the YWCA Princeton’s Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) where funds helped provide direct services to breast cancer survivors, from wigs and prostheses, to nutrition and fitness.

Voting is open to anyone in the United States, Canada and Panama. Visit http://www.pinkglovedance.com/ to watch the 2016 Pink Glove Dance videos, vote or learn more about the competition.

About The Medline Pink Glove Dance Campaign

Back in 2009, Medline Industries, Inc. turned everyday exam gloves from green to pink. This sparked the beginning of the company’s unique breast cancer education campaign. The introduction of pink gloves helps take the scary out of detection exams and remind nurses about the importance of creating a comfortable, friendly and open dialogue with their patients. A few years later, Medline created the Pink Glove Dance video competition, bringing together 250,000 healthcare professionals, patients and communities to celebrate hope for a cure and honor all who have been affected by the disease – all through the joy of dancing. More than 17 million YouTube® views later, the Medline Pink Glove Dance competition has inspired nearly 1,000 dance videos and raised $1.4 million for breast cancer charities nationwide. In addition, Medline has donated $1.7 MM to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) in support of their mission to save lives through early detection and free mammograms for women in need.
