CHICAGO--()--From the Industrial Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), Epilog Laser, the leading designer and manufacturer of CO2 and fiber laser engraving, cutting and marking systems is excited to announce the addition of the G2, the first glavo laser system that can laser mark over a large work area without compromising engraving quality. The G2 is an air-cooled, pulsed fiber laser that engraves at remarkably fast speeds over an adjustable engraving area that spans up to 24” x 24” (609 x 609 mm). Epilog representatives will be demonstrating this exciting new equipment at booth N-6557 at IMTS, Sept. 12 – 17.

“Traditional galvo systems have had two tradeoffs,” explains Mike Dean, vice president of sales and marketing for Epilog Laser. “You were either limited to a small work area with a set focus range, or you needed to have the safety capabilities in place to have a Class IV open laser in your business.

“What we've done is removed that limitation by adjusting focal height and beam delivery with a unique dynamic-focusing lens technology for safely engraving the largest parts (up to 24” x 24”/609 x 609 mm) in an enclosed cabinet,” Dean said.

Other innovative features on the G2 include:

  • Intuitive Keypad to Control Focal Height - With the unique design of the Epilog G2 there is no need to change lenses to change the field size. Operators can set the engraving field directly from the keypad without mechanical changes the system, which allows them to change the table between 4" x 4" (101 mm), 16" x 16" (406 mm), and 24" x 24" (609 mm).
  • Marking Speeds of 2m/sec - Dual-pivoting mirrors make microscopic adjustments to direct the laser beam to the table for incredibly fast, high-resolution engraving.
  • Seamless Software Integration - Print to the laser directly from almost any Windows-based software package including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, barcoding and serialization software, or even graphics programs like CorelDRAW and Illustrator.

“We’ve combined the best of both worlds here – the open architecture capabilities and larger marking area of our traditional CO2 and fiber systems with the lighting fast speed and precision of a galvo system,” Dean said. “We’re thrilled to have developed this exciting technology and make it available to manufacturers from across all industries.”

The G2 is available in 20, 30 or 50-watt configurations and is slated to begin shipping in November, 2016.
