PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Martin Shkreli, biotechnology and pharmaceutical investor, and Steve Hurst, CEO of Savant HWP will discuss Shkreli’s latest deal at the Dorsey 4D Symposium on September 29, 2016. The symposium addresses the “4Ds” of the life sciences industry – devices, diagnostics, drugs and digital health.
Martin Shkreli achieved notoriety – while thrusting the pharmaceutical industry into the spotlight – when his company, Turing Pharmaceuticals, raised the price of the antiparasitic drug Daraprim by 5,556% a tablet. In November 2015, an investor group led by Martin acquired a majority stake in KaloBios Pharmaceuticals. However, the company filed for bankruptcy shortly after Shkreli’s arrest in December and KaloBios’ recent emergence from bankruptcy was conditioned, in part, on the acquisition of Savant’s benznidazole program.
“I am delighted that our audience will hear Martin Shkreli and Steve Hurst talk about such a high-profile and newsworthy transaction,” said, Evan Ng, Partner and Co-Head of Dorsey’s Life Sciences and Health Care practice. “The Dorsey 4D Symposium is committed to providing timely and relevant insights for life sciences industry leaders and investors.”
Shkreli and Hurst will discuss how the KaloBios/Savant deal came together, their observations of KaloBios’ bankruptcy process and the impact of the public eye on pricing practices by life sciences companies.
The Dorsey 4D Symposium showcases leaders in the life sciences industry who discuss critical issues and trends affecting emerging and established life sciences companies and their investors, and provides opportunities to connect with industry executives and venture capitalists.
