Greet our veterans on June 3 at the finish line of the Ride 2 Recovery; Visit The Wall That Heals during Warrior Week

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.--()--Memorial Day in Virginia Beach also signals Warrior Week is underway, including the closing ceremony for Ride 2 Recovery on Friday, June 3. The Ride, supported by the USO, GEICO and other partner organizations, is a 321-mile cycling event for veterans organized in the hope of helping wounded troops connect with others and improve their health and wellness.

This year’s Ride 2 Recovery began May 30 in Washington, D.C., and this year's riders will be cheered across the Virginia Beach finish line at the parking lot of GEICO's Virginia Beach regional office, located at 1345 Perimeter Parkway.

The Ride 2 Recovery kicks off a weekend full of events honoring veterans that will include military displays, live demonstrations and entertainment. GEICO volunteers, alongside USO and other organizations, will be assisting throughout the weekend.

"GEICO associates are dedicated to supporting military troops and veterans," said Tom Garner, director of GEICO's military division. "All of us at GEICO want to show our appreciation for those who serve our great nation and their families. It is an honor to work with USO and these other partners on the Ride 2 Recovery Memorial Challenge. This is a life changing experience for many of the participants and we are grateful to be a part of the program."

In addition, USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia and the City of Virginia Beach will bring together organizations from across the country that specialize in the rehabilitation of wounded service members. Troops, veterans and their family will also have many opportunities to enjoy deep sea fishing, golf, horseback riding, kayaking, surfing, and skydiving.

New to this year's exhibit will be the GEICO sponsored Vietnam War traveling memorial: The Wall That Heals. This display features a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. For those unable to travel to the nation's capital, this mobile exhibition brings the memorial's healing legacy to their own local communities.
