WASHINGTON--()--GEICO corporate secretary Bill Robinson has been named a 2016 Minority Business Leader by The Washington Business Journal. Robinson was selected from a strong field of candidates for his exemplary leadership, charitable endeavors and expertise in business. He was honored at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 25, and will be featured in The Washington Business Journal.

"I am honored to be included in this outstanding group of business leaders," said Robinson. "With this recognition, we owe it to ourselves to continue our efforts to not only make a difference within our companies but within our community as well."

Since 2007, The Washington Business Journal has recognized the top minority business leaders in the Washington Metropolitan area. Nominations are judged based on a candidate's entrepreneurial drive, specific achievements, community leadership, philanthropy, awards and milestones over a 12-to-18 month period.

Throughout his career, Robinson has worked to promote fairness and equality in the legal field for people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, and has invested his time and energy in a number of charitable organizations. In business, he has represented GEICO in complex employment and labor litigation issues, and he actively supports the company's education foundation.

Robinson joined GEICO in 1999 as a senior trial attorney for the company’s Silver Spring, Md., staff counsel office. In 2001, he transferred to the general counsel office at GEICO's corporate headquarters in Chevy Chase, Md. Five years later, Robinson was named corporate secretary of GEICO, a position he has held since 2007.

Robinson has served on the board of directors for a variety of non-profit and charitable organizations: the Frederick B. Abramson Memorial Foundation; the Council for Court Excellence; the New York Urban League and the Washington Bar Association.

In 2008, Robinson was presented with the Council for Court Excellence's Charlie Horsky Award. One year later, he co-authored a book entitled: “Corporate Counsel Solutions – Employment Policies and Practices” with Bruce S. Harrison, Esq., Managing Partner at Shawe Rosenthal, LLP. In 2010, Robinson was voted Top 50 of Who’s Who in Prince George’s County by Prince George’s Suite Magazine. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a J.D. degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
