AUGUSTA, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Throughout 2015, the state of Maine, in partnership with its eGovernment portal provider InforME, made significant strides and advancements to the state’s web presence (www.Maine.gov) creating new ways for citizens and businesses to engage with government online. These advancements have further cemented Maine’s web presence as one of the best government websites in the nation.
The State developed twelve new online services and websites in 2015, expanding eGovernment for both businesses and the general public. New offerings now include a service that allows attorneys to renew their licenses online, a pre-screening tool for locating long-term care resources and an online request system that provides residents with the ability to obtain a duplicate of their motor vehicle title.
In addition to the new online applications, Maine launched twenty-four enhancements to existing services, such as the Professional Licensing service, Notary Public Commission Renewals, Public Criminal Records Requests and Online Driver License Renewals. All of these upgrades and improvements focused on making each service more accessible and functional for the public.
The State also took steps to promote Maine’s open data initiative by launching the Maine Open Data Portal (www.data.maine.gov), a one-stop location for public data sets ranging from Maine lighthouses to hunting and fishing information. The new data portal allows the public to visualize data sets in a variety of ways including maps, charts, and text files. Moving forward, the State will continue to acquire new data sets to make this portal even more beneficial to the public.
Finally, the portal, its websites, and its services, received national recognition throughout the year. These achievements continue to demonstrate the state’s commitment to providing the best possible online experience for Maine citizens.
Awards won in 2015 include:
- The Maine Business Answers service (www.maine.gov/businessanswers/), provided by the Department of Economic and Community Development, was honored as a top online application receiving an award that recognizes achievements in the fields of both creativity and communications.
