RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Merz Aesthetics, a division of Merz North America (US affiliate of the global Merz Pharma Group), announced today that they have begun commercial shipment of the Cellfina™ System to aesthetic practices in the U.S. market. Cellfina™ is the only FDA-cleared minimally invasive procedure clinically proven to improve the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thighs of adult females, for results that last at least two years, the longest duration cleared by the FDA.
“This month’s product shipments represent a key milestone as we begin the full commercial launch of the Cellfina™ System in the U.S. market,” said Patrick Urban, Vice President and U.S. Head of the Merz Aesthetics Device business. “Interest in Cellfina™ has continued to grow over the past months, as evidenced by the ongoing national media coverage of this unique cellulite treatment, including mentions on The Doctors, Good Morning America and the Dr. Oz Show. With approximately 85% of U.S. women reporting concerns with cellulite1, we look forward to bringing this effective treatment option to more patients in the months to come.”
The Cellfina™ System combines highly advanced, proprietary technology with a well-established procedure called subcision, to treat the primary structural cause of dimpled cellulite. In clinical trials, patient satisfaction with the results of Cellfina™ treatment improved from 94% at one year to 96% patient satisfaction at the two year mark. The most common side effects reported were soreness, tenderness, and bruising.
“For adult women who want to improve the appearance of cellulite on the thighs and buttocks, I have found Cellfina™ to be a safe and effective treatment option that requires only one session for lasting results,” said Dr. Joel L. Cohen. “In my own practice, treatment with Cellfina™ has continued to yield very high patient satisfaction rates and lasting results.” Joel L. Cohen, MD has been performing Cellfina™ treatments since November 2014; he is a board-certified dermatologist in private practice in Denver, Colorado and is the Director of AboutSkin Dermatology and DermSurgery in Englewood and Lone Tree, Colorado. He also serves on the volunteer faculty of the University of Colorado as an Associate Clinical Professor, and as an assistant clinical professor at the University of California at Irvine.
