NEW YORK--()--On December 7, The WorldPost and Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute (GDI) published The 2015 WorldPost/GDI Global Thought Leaders Index.

The Index maps global conversation on the Internet and ranks its most influential voices through a “collective intelligence analysis” of the English-dominated global infosphere as well as the other main language infospheres of Spanish and Chinese, as well as German. The 2014 Index results from the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute (GDI) in Zurich were combined with nominations from editors at The WorldPost, leading Spanish daily El Pais, Univision/Fusion, Shanghai-based Guancha.cn and Berlin-based European Magazine. Those nominations were correlated with a “between-ness score” derived from the number of mentions (talked with and/or about) on Wikipedia, tweets, and blogs to establish an influence rank.

The Index lists the top 400 most influential global voices most often discussed and mentioned online. Higher in the ranks are Pope Francis at #1, Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho at #2, Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk at #4, Edward Snowden at #5, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma at #9. Other top influencers of note include former Turkish President Abdullah Gul at #56, Chinese novelist Mo Yan at #83, Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez at #99, and Indian blogger Chetan Bhagat at #136.

The aim of The WorldPost – a partnership of the Berggruen Institute and the Huffington Post – is to establish a global platform for the cross-pollination of ideas beyond borders, a place where the whole world meets. Partnering with the highly regarded Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute in Zurich to chart the currents and map the virtual territory of the infosphere is a key step in making the Internet a truly "global thinking circuit" instead of just a worldwide series of dots that don't connect.
