Evaporcool Solutions’ Contract Approved by the California Public Utilities Commission, Helping California Meet Its Clean Energy Goals More Economically and Reliably

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--()--Evaporcool Solutions (Evaporcool), in partnership with NRG Energy, was awarded a contract for the Local Capacity Requirement (LCR) Preferred Resource Program. The LCR Preferred Resource Program is a long-term plan to enhance electric grid reliability by developing portfolios of new, clean energy resources by 2022 in Southern California.

Evaporcool’s contract objective is to reduce electricity consumption of commercial air conditioning by 72.5 megawatts in the footprint of Southern California Edison (SCE). The California Public Utilities Commission approved the contract for this historical program placing energy-efficiency in parity with traditional energy-generation sources. Evaporcool will now begin marketing, installing, and commissioning its industry-leading, evaporative precooling systems in Southern California. Evaporcool’s system helps reduce energy consumption during peak hours and enhances the reliability of not only individual facilities, but also the overall power grid. Reducing 72.5 megawatts of power in Southern California over the next few years is equivalent to reducing the power consumption of 72,500 residential homes annually.

“Peak energy consumption in Southern California has been and continues to be driven by increased use of air conditioning. Our ability to make commercial air conditioning more effective and efficient will reduce over 70 megawatts of power on the grid through the use of our sophisticated technology. We see this as the future of the electric industry’s drive to reduce peak demand,” says Chris Curry, President of Evaporcool Solutions.

Evaporcool will be focused in the Southern California market with a target of commercial air conditioning systems that are larger than 20 tons.

“This partnership with Evaporcool is designed to provide cost savings, enhanced electric grid reliability and cleaner energy as it helps California meet its aggressive emission reduction goals. Bringing new energy-efficiency options and attributes to a new generation of products is an exciting addition to our offerings,” said John Chillemi, President of NRG Energy’s West Region.
