ROCHELLE PARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ORBCOMM Inc. (Nasdaq: ORBC), a global provider of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Morsviazsputnik (Marsat), the licensed operator of Inmarsat’s mobile satellite services in Russia, to provide SkyWave’s IsatData Pro (IDP) service in the territory of the Russian Federation. This agreement opens the Russian Federation for the global heavy equipment Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) market as well as other key industries such as transportation, oil & gas and maritime. The SkyWave IDP service utilizes Inmarsat’s global L-band satellite network to offer the highest payload and lowest latency of any satellite M2M service.
“Securing the ability to do business in Russia has been a top priority of ORBCOMM’s OEM customers, and we are extremely pleased to be working with a leading distributor like Morsviazsputnik to further expand the reach of our satellite business in this important geographic market,” said Marc Eisenberg, ORBCOMM’s Chief Executive Officer. “Morsviazsputnik’s strong market presence in Russia combined with our powerful IDP service positions us well to provide customers with even more connectivity options and broader network coverage.”
“We are very pleased to partner with ORBCOMM to provide IDP service in Russia, which is an important and mutually beneficial milestone for both of our companies,” said Andrey Kuropyatnikov, General Director of Morsviazsputnik. “By leveraging ORBCOMM’s proven leadership in heavy equipment telematics, Morsviazsputnik will increase the distribution and reach of the IDP service offering in Russia.”
SkyWave’s IDP service offers enhanced reliability and the ability to deliver up to 37 times more data than other satellite-based M2M services in the market. This allows businesses to share more data across diverse operations, via emails, text messages, electronic forms and workflow information. The IDP series supports a wide range of security and location-based M2M services, from heavy equipment telematics, to tracking and in-cab messaging for fleet management, to transmitting fixed equipment telemetry information for remote oil & gas monitoring, to vessel tracking and buoy monitoring in maritime applications.
ORBCOMM and Morsviazsputnik will be able to market and distribute SkyWave’s IDP service in Russia immediately. Through the addition of Russia, ORBCOMM with SkyWave’s IDP service is now able to market and distribute its M2M products and services in more than 130 countries and territories around the world.
