3D Leader Legend3D Expands Virtual Reality Division, Grows Toronto and L.A. Operations

San Diego facility begins transition to Hollywood and Ontario offices

LOS ANGELES--()--Legend3D, Inc., a market-leading visual effects, virtual reality and 3D conversion company, is continuing expansion plans over the next quarter by adding key talent to their Hollywood and Toronto facilities. In the wake of numerous, recently-awarded virtual reality and 3D conversion contracts, the facility will continue ramping up by both hiring and transferring key talent to support their Ontario headquarters as well as expanding their Hollywood-based 3D Hub and finishing facility. Both facilities will utilize Legend’s real-time depth grade system and world-class digital asset management system across a 10-gigabyte pipeline, allowing an efficient workflow for continued partnerships with studios and filmmakers alike.

“Our transition to our third facility in Toronto happened much quicker than we’d thought it ever could, and with more work came the need for more artists and production support…but now VR has taken off at Legend as well,” said Matt Akey, EVP of Production for Legend. “So we are growing our L.A. and Toronto offices, and transitioning a portion of our Carlsbad workforce to these two facilities to both maximize profitability and be more conveniently located to the filmmaking community.”

“From the early days of our proprietary colorization work, through the 3D conversion boom and to now, Legend has been a San Diego-based company. Two needs have become apparent as we’ve grown over the years – first, we need to centralize our business near a VFX talent-rich region such as Toronto; and we also need to have a significant creative presence in L.A. for both the directors we work with and for the studio and agency clients jumping into virtual reality experiences…the transition was inevitable and we’re moving fast to accommodate it,” added Anthony Lopez, VP of Operations.

In addition to 3D conversion, Legend also provides additional post-production services such as on-set 3D consultation; Virtual Reality creative and technical supervision and 360-degree capture, stitching and VFX/Conversion for 360-degree content; 2D VFX services; and 2D/3D editorial conform and assembly. The company recently finished conversion on Lionsgate’s Insurgent and MGM’s Poltergeist, and is currently working on major 3D releases from Sony/TriStar Pictures and Walt Disney Pictures, as well as having completed its second major virtual reality experience.
