Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Encourages Southern Nevada to Move 100,000 Miles in Eight Weeks

Anthem Partners with Beasley Broadcasting to Inspire Las Vegas to Get Moving

LAS VEGAS--()--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Nevada has teamed up with Beasley Broadcasting to promote the importance of staying active through the Southern Nevada Moves Miles program, which challenges valley residents to walk a collective 100,000 miles in eight weeks. Anthem is the presenting sponsor of this second annual community health program.

The challenge kicked off on March 1 and runs through April 26. Participants who log their miles on the www.southernnevadamovesmiles.com website will be eligible to win weekly prizes. Every activity adds up – gardening, cleaning the house, walking the dog, biking – you name it.

“Anthem is committed to improving the health of Southern Nevada, and Southern Nevada Moves Miles is a great example that you don’t need fancy equipment or a gym membership to get active,” said Mike Murphy, president, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Nevada. “It’s through programs like this that Southern Nevada can become healthier, one step at a time.”

Mayors of several Southern Nevada cities, including Las Vegas and North Las Vegas, have already committed to have their employees participate in the program and log their miles to help the region reach its goal. This year, Southern Nevada Moves Miles is also partnering with the Clark County School District’s (CCSD) Safe Routes to School Program to create an incentive-based program to encourage more walking, bicycling and physical activity. Anthem’s funding of the all-new Fire Up Your Feet program is now available to all CCSD elementary and middle schools (grades K-8), letting schools compete for cash awards by enrolling and participating in Fire Up Your Feet alongside the Moves Miles campaign. “Cadwallader Middle School is all ‘in’ and has organized a Fire Up Your Feet Committee to get students moving!” said Darla Martin, Cadwallader Middle School teacher and member of the school’s Fire Up Your Feet Committee. “We kick off on Nevada Moves Day, March 18, by encouraging students to walk or bike to school and getting kids up and dancing at lunchtime. And we keep moving by promoting Fire Up Your Feet Friday every week through May 15 with special activities. Everyone is excited to be on the leaderboard!”

The Southern Nevada Moves Miles website (www.southernnevadamovesmiles.com) also features healthy recipes, tips to squeeze physical activity into a busy day and tools to convert other activities like cycling into walking miles.

"In continuing our efforts to serve our local community, Beasley Broadcasting is proud to present Southern Nevada Moves Miles, a campaign supporting fit and healthy lifestyle choices for Southern Nevadans,” said Lee Grau, General Sales Manager at Beasley Broadcasting, the parent company of five Las Vegas stations including NewsTalk 720 KDWN-AM, 102.7 The Coyote and STAR 107.9 FM.
