CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Smart Lunches, one of the web's fastest-growing providers of healthy meals for children, announced today that it has launched operations in the Chicagoland area. The company now operates in seven states.
Daily deliveries of Smart Lunches’ kid- and nutritionist-approved meals began a few weeks ago at a number of area schools eager to be among the first in the region to offer the company’s quality school lunches to their students. Inaugural schools include Hyde Park Day School in Northfield and Chicago, Chiaravalle Montessori School in Evanston, Holy Ghost School in Wood Dale, and Christian Heritage Academy in Chicago.
Smart Lunches, which launched in the Boston area in 2011 and is now the largest independent school lunch service in that region, serves thousands of lunches each week in southern New England, greater Philadelphia, and metropolitan Washington, DC. More than 270 elementary schools, middle schools, early childhood education centers, and summer day camps now host Smart Lunches’ “virtual lunch service.”
Smart Lunches teams with established local catering businesses to prepare its meals fresh every day, and then delivers them individually packaged and labeled to its partner schools. Students and staff use Smart Lunches’ award-winning website to choose from over a dozen meal options every day, saving parents the time of making lunches themselves. Smart Lunches contributes a portion of its meal revenues back to each school to support its educational mission.
"We are delighted to partner with Smart Lunches this year. Parents are thrilled with the wide selection of healthy options that can be personalized for their luncher,” said Kathy Severson of Christian Heritage Academy. “Our staff appreciates how easy delivery, distribution and clean up is. Most importantly, everyone really loves the delicious lunches.”
“Smart Lunches has been a wonderful fit for our school,” added Robyn McCloud-Springer, Head of School at Chiaravalle Montessori School. “Parents and students have access to healthy, customized lunches with minimal management by school personnel.”
Next summer, local day camps will also offer Smart Lunches’ convenient service to their families.
Smart Lunches’ inaugural catering partner in the region is Amazing Edibles Gourmet Catering. "Amazing Edibles has built a great reputation for delicious high-quality meals, and we're delighted to bring our team to the Smart Lunches service,” said Andrea Herrera, Amazing Edibles’ founder and president. “It's a great fit for us and we're thrilled to be nourishing the children of area schools.”
Heading up the Smart Lunches team in the Chicagoland area is Danielle Steinitz, Regional Manager. "Danielle's background in specialty catering as well as her experience as a pre-school teacher make her a terrific leader in helping local schools understand and leverage the Smart Lunches service," said Anne Crays, SVP of Partners and Philanthropy at Smart Lunches.
