WOBURN, Mass.--()--Monotype Imaging Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: TYPE), a leading provider of typefaces, technology and expertise for creative applications and consumer devices, today introduced Membership by Monotype. The new cloud-based service removes the confusion and extra effort that brands and teams often encounter when working with fonts, by providing customers with unlimited and instantaneous typeface experimentation, a library that supports Web and print design, and a clear-cut licensing model. With Membership, brands and agencies get the flexibility and dependability they need to create beautiful, consistent brand expressions across every medium.

Unlike quantity-limited and time-limited models, Membership by Monotype allows designers to install an unlimited number of desktop fonts on their workstation for the life of their subscription, offering the freedom to try a variety of typefaces on real text and enabling them to make non-rushed, well-informed creative decisions for better branding and design. Every typeface comes in both Web and desktop formats, so customers never have to compromise their brand as they move between digital and print work.

A vast library with distinction and depth

Membership by Monotype currently offers more than 14,000 typefaces from the Monotype®, Linotype®, Ascender®, Bitstream® and ITC® libraries. It includes popular classics like the Frutiger® and Helvetica® typefaces as well as fresh new designs like the Metro® Nova, Burlingame® and Quire Sans™ typefaces. The libraries’ extensive language support provides the flexibility creative teams need to address global audiences.

For paid subscribers, every typeface in the Membership library comes cleared for internal print, Web, and app design purposes. Higher tier subscribers also benefit from library-wide commercial publishing and distribution rights for creative projects. Previously, creative teams burned a lot of time and money hunting for the perfect typeface, only to find out later that it could not be used on a project due to licensing restrictions – resulting in fractured visual identities and weakened brand impressions. Membership by Monotype removes these obstacles.

“As consumer touch points continue to multiply, it is critical for brands to create consistency in the way they are displayed and perceived across all of these mediums,” said John McCallum, Monotype’s vice president of Enterprise Solutions. “Type is a crucial component of brand identity and is sometimes the only piece that remains when designs scale down to things like packaging, labels and small screens. We designed our Membership service to remove the barriers that have traditionally existed in working with type, liberating the creative process and providing the future-proofing that brands and agencies need when it comes to using type across every medium.”

Membership by Monotype also provides unlimited and instant experimentation with Web fonts through its Typecast® Web design tool, which is included in every subscription. Using Typecast, Web designers can test every Membership Web font right in the browser, with simple visual controls. Designers can also create detailed Web page layouts, fully responsive prototypes, and HTML ads—testing font legibility, rendering and responsive behaviors, as they work.
