NuPhysicia First To Use Predictive Medical Test For Offshore Workers

Microalbumin test important to predict employee risk of diabetes, heart and kidney disease

HOUSTON--()--NuPhysicia, Inc., is now using the important predictive laboratory test, Urine Microalbumin Assay, as part of their leading telemedicine technology and health care services to offshore rig employees. The addition of this test will further enhance the long-term health management of these patients.

Employees on offshore rigs in the Gulf of Mexico are the only workers receiving health risk evaluations at the job site by physicians via telemedicine through NuPhysicia’s InPlace Medical Solutions.

“The microalbumin test is an important addition to our remote health risk assessment programs for the long-term benefit of employees,” said Dr. Michael J. Davis, cardiologist and senior vice president at NuPhysicia. “The test rapidly provides crucial information about a patient’s risk of diabetes, stroke, heart and kidney disease so that they can best manage their health.”

InPlace Medical Solutions’ health risk assessment programs include their effective protocols for the use of point-of-care testing (POCT) devices for such remote locations as oil rigs. These advanced tests use small blood samples, instead of full blood draws, to perform analysis of blood sugar and blood fats like cholesterol—HDL, LDL and triglycerides. Results are available within minutes instead of days. These rapid results allow for important medical monitoring and health risk evaluations to be conducted right on the rig.

The addition of the microalbumin test expands the depth of the health evaluation assessment that is currently conducted by InPlace Medical Solutions and is now a standard part of its health risk evaluation service offered to offshore and remote locations.
